Ways To Dress For The Job You Want
We’ve always heard people say, dress for the job you want, not the one you’re in, but that’s totally easy said than done. It’s become more of human to perceive a person by what they are wearing; it doesn’t matter that you work hard! Think of the movie Devil Wears Prada, Andy wasn’t taken seriously until she changed her wardrobe.
The other issue is we usually don’t have the budget to dress for the job we want, even though society has made it a big deal. Dressing for the job you want says that you’re looking ahead and thinking forward. Always remember the most important facet to your role as a CEO or Entrepreneur presence is appearance. Image gone wrong and it can get your knocked off the list in a second.
So how can you dress for the job we want without killing your wallet?
- Invest in classic, quality wardrobe essentials that can be worn overtime.
There are certain items you should invest in to help build a wardrobe that function with your lifestyle. Stick with neutral colors so you can wear your pieces with everything.
- Tailor everything.
I can’t stress how important it is to alter items that don’t fit properly. Not only does it make you look well put-together but also makes a world of a difference. One of my pet peeves is pants that drag the floor and bulging waist lines.
- Look for statement jewelry.
There is a difference between workplace jewelry and jewelry just for the weekend. Ideally you want to have the items under accessories from my Essential Wardrobe Checklist for work. Save your oversized earrings and statement necklaces for the weekend.
- Wear heels.
Now, I’m a heels girl all the way. Everyday I want to make an impact and wearing heels conveys that special power for me. Research suggest that tall woman are more assertive, confident, richer and successful than their shorter peers. Perception is powerful and can really help your career. If you’re not that into high heels opt for a wedge style shoe. When your feet have had enough, switch your heels for a nice pair of flats.
- Always be aware of your style choices.
You need to be aware of every style decision you make from your coat to your handbag to the brand of coffee you drink. Anything outside of your wardrobe is apart of your style statement. If you only drink the best brand of roast coffee, people who you socialize with will began to pick up on that and start to treat you with high regard.
